God how I miss my friend Brian Schweitzer. It was so good to hear him speak. I’m glad that he hasn’t lost any of passion for making things better in Montana. His intelligence and experience are just unmatched. He was a force of nature in politics, and we sure could use him again. Hopefully he’s working behind the scenes to help the party. I’ve known him and worked on his campaign since the day he announced his senate run down at the wheat build here in Great Falls. I liked him the moment I met him. He will go down in history as one of Montana’s greatest politicians. And as far as I know, he was the only governor to ever have a Native American grand entry at his inaugural ball. It was fantastic. That’s the kind of guy he is. A true Montana original.
Russell, Having not lived in Montana since autumn of 1991, I’ve really appreciated listening to your 56 Counties interviews streamed from YPR, and now, here on The State of Montana podcast from Substack. They’ve made me feel halfway informed about my home state over the last few years, and I’ve especially appreciated this particular interview. What an eye-opener it is! And not just about Montana history but world history. I’d like to share it with friends who still live in western Montana, in case they haven’t heard it. Will they be able to hear it if I send them a link and they don’t have a paid subscription?
Thanks for sharing the history of your family, Brian. I always admired your parents. And thanks for your service to the state and your continued engagement in Montana politics. Great interview, Russell! Keep it up!
