Once again, thanks to your work on your "State of Montana" series. This morning, Lynn and I listened to your interview with Marc Racicot, who certainly comes across as one seriously principled elder, one who knows the Constitution intimately and who's tracked closely the ways in which U.S. has been falling apart for the past decade and more. I ruefully note that like myself, Marc largely blames the enslaving landscapes of social media for our political and personal morass.
I wonder pessimistically whether there's any way out of the addicitions that have rendered most politicians, if not most adults, sad version of children throwing tantrums, one after another after another?
Another great show, Russell! I would really love to talk to Gov Marc about how Citizens United decision corrupts Helena’s ethic of civility. Civility is so intrinsic to our culture that CU’s unleashed, unaccountable corporate free speech through third party ads ruptures Helena free speech (IMHO) in defiance of our police powers. Marc and I had some awkwardness during my legislative race against Chase Hibbard. Both Marc and Chase are beginning to grow on me. Everything is relative!
I know a lot of people are still angry at Racicot for some of his decisions, and I can completely understand that. The thing that impressed me most, considering how many politicians go to their graves defending their every move, is that he's someone who is contemplating those decisions, and even admitting to mistakes. It seems right for a Montana guy, right?

Hey Alan, thanks as always for your thoughtful comments. It does seem to be a pretty huge hurdle.

Well, we know he was raised right!!
P.S. Montana constitutional right to freedom of expression (IMHO) dovetails with the importance of cultural identity.
P.P. S. Collective expression is probably a better term than culture for Helena‘s ethic of civility.
I am catching up on your podcasts. So happy you are doing this. Montana needs it. Great interview.
